Foundation
for Youth Development, known as FYDe, is a Community Based Organization (CBO)
located in Bufunda Village- Ibanda District, southwestern Uganda. In the local language of Runyankore. As the leading
youth-focused CBO in Ibanda District, FYDe itself is a lamp, shining light to
guide the next generation of Ugandans into positions of leadership in their
communities.
We
believe that the best path to true development is always the one which is
community-imagined and community-driven.
The more our members invest time and money in their own initiatives, the
more likely they are to succeed…and last.
At FYDe, we don’t consider ourselves philanthropists, consultants, or
even community workers—we are social entrepreneurs!
How We Started:
FYDe was co-founded by 5 colleagues, under the ideological
vision of our Chairperson, Benjamin Sunday.
We started FYDe because we saw a gap in development projects, many of
which are targeted to adults and children.
And yet, youth (15-35 years) are the ones most likely to be caring for
both sides of their family—their parents and relatives and/or their own
partners and children. Youth also have
the highest capacity to learn new skills and the most motivation to make change
in their communities. It is time for
Uganda’s youth to find their voices!
Our Vision:
FYDe
envisions ‘an economically independent community sustaining itself through
utilization and conservation of its own resources.’
Our Mission:
I am impressed. Press on toward you goal, vision and mission. (Phil. 3:14)
